Here is a recipe for a basic chocolate chip cookie. It comes out chewy with a slightly crunchy edge. A perfect lunch box treat, or afternoon snack with a glass of cold milk.

- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Method:
- Beat together margarine and sugars.
- Add eggs and vanilla and beat until smooth.
- Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
- Mix well and then stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake @375ยบ for 8-10 minutes.
- Let sit on pan for half a minute before removing to cooling rack.

ReplyDeleteIt was worth turning on the oven on a hot day!
Thank you!
Gosh, you guys are making me have to run extra blocks in the morning!
ReplyDeleteI'm so hooked on this blog. My hubby says he's going to start a mennonite boys blog about building stuff. I say that's pretty sexist!! :)
Kathy, do you truly use margarine or do you use butter? I wonder if that makes a difference in a chewy cookie. I have gone completely away from baking margarine for a few years, because of trans fat. Just curious what you use.
ReplyDeleteHI Lori, I know what you are saying about Margarine. I do use it still in some of my cookies. I also have several other recipes where butter changes the taste so much that I stick to margarine. They will taste great with either, but I'm sure the texture will be slightly different using butter.....try it....let me know. Kathy
ReplyDeleteHow many cookies are in this batch? We are making cookies for a youth group event of approx 20 people.
