Another favorite cookie recipe from my mom, made so many times for all of her grandchildren as they were growing up.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons pancake syrup
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup baking cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Cream (room temperature) butter and shortening. Add in the sugars and syrup, beating until well combined, then the eggs and vanilla.
- Add combined dry ingredients.
- Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
- Drop by Tbsp onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 375° F for 10 minutes - for larger cookies - yielding 4 dozen (8 minutes - for smaller cookies - yielding 5 dozen)
- Leave on cookie sheets to cool.
How beautiful are they? I love the amount of cocoa. A keeper! Thank you for sharing.

Oh boy - I want one of those right now - drool!! That is a tried and true recipe for sure. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeletePrinted this recipe as I have many others and they are print friendly. However, the smallest print size I can select is 9 pt. I would like to print it in smaller form as it usually takes 2 or 3 sheets to print it making it inconvenient when making the recipe. Can you set it smaller? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried to click on "remove images"? I just tried that and used the smallest print option ... it only takes up half the page.
DeleteI'm sorry that is all I can suggest, since we have the privelege of using the print button for free and do not regulate how it works.
My friends and I are enjoying these right now :) Brought some smiles to a rainy day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anneliese, I did remove images etc, but thanks for the reply.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your site.
Can 1/2 cup shortening be subed for something else?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure you could use all butter.
DeleteMade these this afternoon- they are delicious! Used all butter and they turned out just fine. Thank you, this one's a keeper!
