Bread for the Journey

We have hummingbird feeders hanging just outside our kitchen window, so we can watch the entertaining hummingbirds as we enjoy our meals.
My thoughts go to strange places sometimes and this morning I commented to my husband,
"I wish I could be a a different animal for a day ...  a dolphin one day, a rabbit the next
 and then a hummingbird."
My husband chuckled at me, and suggested that I would need to be careful to be able to come back
and not get stuck in an animal body."
I smiled, but I continued on my thought path ...
"We can watch the behavior of each animal, and predict what it will do, but there really is no way that we can truly understand how they think or reason, can we?"
My husband agreed that there wasn't.
I replied ... "So the only way we could truly know is to become a hummingbird ourselves."

I then thought of the relevance this had to what God did for us.
A God-being who is the Creator of all things, having a mind that surpasses anything we might understand or grasp, an invisible God that we can only believe in by faith - how can we believe that He truly understand who we are or what it is like to live in our physical body?
Only one way .....
And God was able to do what I cannot ....
I can't take on the body of a hummingbird and experience his life --
But God took on the physical body of a man and lived his life,
experiencing what it was like.
So we can never say that God does not understand us...
 He does...
He came down and became one of us !

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
~John 1:14

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
~ Heb. 4:13
