Saturday in Ellen's Kitchen

For Saturday in my kitchen I want to share a few of my favorite things. This large oval dutch oven from Le Creuset is at the top of my list and must haves. It's what I use for many meals in my kitchen.

Good knives are at the top of my list, too. We love our bread at my home so a good serrated knife is a must and a good quality chefs knife for chopping and dicing and slicing.
We enjoy our morning cup of coffee. The Bunn is our favorite for the speed and quality of delivery. We tried the Keurig for a year before we admitted we missed our Bunn!
A quiet dishwasher is a must for this old house. Our kitchen, dining room, and family room are all in very close proximity so to have a quiet dishwasher is a gift!
One very large sink is another great addition to a kitchen. I can wash any large item in this sink. Cookie sheets, large cast iron dutch ovens, large pots and pans, and turkey roasters fit in this sink.

These are the favorite things I would not want to live without. How about you? What are your must haves?

  2. Wow, difficult question......it seems like all my kitchen items are must haves. The one appliance we use basically every single day, is our 4-slot Kenmore toaster. Hmmmm, yep, don't think I could live without it.

  4. The Le Creuset pot is definitely on the top of my list too! In fact, I am on my way out today to buy one for a wedding gift. I couldn't cook for a day without it! But a close second would be my Cutco knives. Incredible quality and they will sharpen them for life!!

  6. I agree with the LeCreuset pan. They are amazing but so heavy! I also agree with good knives. I feel a good set of knives and pans are a must.

  7. Ooo - I love your sink too!!! I'm like Anonymous and have such a cluttered kitchen as well - yours looks so neat and tidy! A few of my favourite things are my Kitchen Aid mixer, my Starfrit the Rock frying pan, and my Microplane grater/zester!

  8. Great big cutting board that lives on the countertop next to the sink, across from the fridge. Under it is the knife drawer and under that is the pull-out waste basket. I waited years to get this setup and I love it!

  10. I miss the granite countertop from my old house. I could roll out dough, cut biscuits, etc. with such ease.

  12. I love my le Creuset dutch oven, henkel knives, boesch dishwasher (yes its very quiet also) Kitchen Aid mixer, and my finnish Opa pots (sadly this company went out of business before I could buy sets for my children) and my finnish juicer pot (I make blueberry juice every week!!!) It pays to invest in good quality :) as the products perform well and last forever.

  14. I can not function with stuff on my counters. For some absolutely ridiculous reason, I threw away my small and large white plastic cutting boards I've had for 20 years. Saw some news ones at a home party and didn't even test them out before I tossed mine. I'm sick. The new ones are so noisy and loud! How silly does that sound? Whack, whack and the knife just skids and drive me nuts. So, I'm waiting to hear of someone that can recommend some good ones. My prized possession in my kitchen is my dish washing brush. It's super long and stands up to anything hot that I shouldn't be washing that soon anyways Ü I n-e-v-e-r have my hands in water. My nails thank me! I'm going to look at the Miele brand dishwasher. We just started shopping for our kitchen update yesterday. Thanks for the wonderfully timed post!

    1. Tracy, re cutting boards, try either a restaurant supply store or a Kitchenaide store. Found my plastic cutting boards from those shops. At this point, don't know which came from which store. [Rotate two, so one can be in the dishwasher while the other I being used. Also have a large one which covers my stove top. This comes out during the summer when the stove top isn't being used or during my marathon Christmas baking sessions.
