Recipe Pie Plates

I'm wondering how many readers happen to be holding on to a recipe pie plate such as this. I have two, which are probably from the 1980's. It dawned on me recently that I have used these plates over and over for many a pie but never tried the recipe printed on the plate. So this was my new challenge.

You want to be sure to copy the recipe before you start. Take a picture or something, because you don't want to undo what you've started if you need to check the recipe. This quiche was pretty good. I think next time I would bake the crust for about 10 minutes before adding the filling. I also had to bake it about 10 minutes longer than specified. It was a nice light tasting filling.

Here is the recipe - I doubt there is a copyright on it.

My other pie plate has a cherry pie recipe. It was delicious.

I used frozen, pitted dark, sweet cherries from Costco.

And . . . the recipe

What recipe do you have on your pie plate?

  1. I had the same quiche pie plate. The plate has long gone but I still use that same quiche recipe.

  2. I don't have a recipe plate, but do have my Grandmother's white glass plate that is red on the outside. I also have a question, did you adjust the sugar, since you were using sweet cherries instead of canned tart pie cherries?

    1. I rarely use as much sugar for pie as stated, so I may have used 3/4 cup sugar, although I can't say for sure as I was trying this recipe for posting the pie plate. I did not get the impression that the canned cherries (called for) were tart.

  5. Your pies look so good. I was sitting in a restaurant this week and they had a huge mural that was two different recipes. I studied it for a bit, wondering if I should take a picture and bake them at home. =)

  6. I got one of those pie plates as a bridal shower gift. Unfortunately it did not bake a very good crust. I do believe it went to Goodwill. Your pies look luscious

  7. I also received one of these as a bridal shower gift in 1986! It is one of my favorite pie plates. Mine has a recipe for pecan pie which I have used many times and it has turned out well.

  8. We've got the Apple Pie plate, it was a wedding gift in 1986. Nope, I've never made that recipe because I have an apple pie recipe that I just love so that's the one I always make. Right now our Apple Pie dish has strawberry pie in it...the pie police aren't going to show up on my doorstep, are they? ;)

  9. we have the apple pie plate at my house...it is the only apple pie recipe i have ever made. It makes a very good pie, although we always add a pinch of allspice along with the cinnamon.

  10. I have an apple pie plate given to me at a bridal shower in 1984. The glaze is a little cracked, so I worry about whether anything might leach out of the glaze. I'm a worrier like that.

  11. I married it 1985. We also have the apple pie plate. I have made the recipe and it is very good. I love the pie plate and don't use it often. I am always afraid I will break it.

  12. I have two of these plates - they are my favourite. One plate has been used so much that the printing has all worn off (I can't remember what recipe it was) and the other one is called "any fruit pie filling". And like you, I have never actually used that recipe. Likely my mom gave them to me, since she is the master pie baker that I learned from.

  13. This post made me smile....My son Layton spent over 6 months in hospital last year and trying to find ways to thank the nurses was always fun. One day I decided to bake blackberry pies to thank them. The blackberries had been picked by Layton the summer before...and I am certain the Lord knew that those berries would bless the staff that gave so much towards Layton's journey. I had a favorite pie plate just like the ones in the picture. Mine was the lemon meringue recipe pie plate. Off to the hospital we go and my only request when dropping the pies off at the nurses station was please return the pie plates when the pie was finished......you guessed it the pies were enjoyed and the plate went missing. Never to be found. Its funny how attached I was to the pie plate.. ..it had lots of memories attached to it. If any of you out there who loves to thrift finds one...I'd love to have another pie plate. The lemon pie recipe is excellent too :)
