Raisin Bread Fig and Cheese Sandwich

Last year Lovella and I attended a conference in Phoenix. My cousin Angie came and picked us up one afternoon and we went to her place and had a very special visit over lunch. She made us a simple but most tasty toasted sandwich. The combination of flavours was wonderful. I've changed things up a bit by using raisin bread and cheddar cheese. She used a sourdough bread and Havarti cheese. The fig and orange spread makes it! If you can't find Fig and Orange spread, try using fig jam and apricot jam mixed together....it's a wonderful combination.
  • raisin bread, or choose your favourite
  • Fig and Orange spread (found in the jam section)
  • cheddar cheese, or choose your favourite
  • crisp apple
  1. Toast bread in toaster.
  2. Spread both slices of each sandwich with Fig and Orange spread.
  3. Top one side of sandwich with a slice of apple and then lay cheese over apple.
  4. Grill the one side topped with the apple and cheese just until the cheese bubbles. (This works well in a toaster oven too)
  5. Place the other side of the sandwich with spread over top. Serve while hot.

  3. Fig jam and goat cheese on toasted baguette slices (crostini) is delicious and addictive. I have only just discovered fig jam in the last couple of years. Angharad

  4. This looks great! Just need a raisin bread recipe :) My husband put up fig jam last year, PTL that he did since none of our fig trees made it through the hard winter we had here.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. This sounds similar to something my Mother's family made when she was little and she made it for me but it was saltine crackers with a slice of cheddar and a dollop of jam on top. We would have it as a snack or even for lunch sometimes. It's yummy but it would be nice to have a regular sized sandwich like it. I can't wait to try it! Thank you!
