Blueberry Banana Smoothies

Are you looking for something different and refreshing to add to your appetizer menu on a hot summer's afternoon?
Smoothies, served in small glasses are sure to be a hit.
With the bountiful blueberry harvest here in the Fraser Valley,
I chose to make them with blueberries but you could substitute any other kind of berry.
I'm sure the children would love this for breakfast as well.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 bananas sliced
  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup milk
Method:
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until berries are finely chopped, adding more milk if a thinner consistency is desired.
  3. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.  (The banana will brown and dull the pretty blue colour).
Makes approximately 8 servings. (1/2 cup each)

  1. Lemon juice is supposed to keep bananas from browning. I know it works for apples. I haven't tried it on bananas as I drink up my smoothie fast!

  2. Oh Yummy!! Last night I was wondering what to do with the overripe bananas I have. I'll put them with some blueberries and the rest of the ingredients. Thanks!

  3. Hi, Blueberries make beautiful looking smoothies, and a great idea to serve as "cooling" appetizer in the summertime. Your photo inspired me this morning to whip up my fav combo- fresh Strawberries, banana, honey or agave nectar( a Sweetener-low glycemic index), Greek yougurt, and 1 scoop of "Jay Robb's" protein powder in strawberry flavor.
By the way, nice photo of all of the "Mennonite Girls"can cook around the table!
