Freezing Bacon

  1. When you buy bacon.......roll each slice into a pin curl and freeze individually, or roll two pieces together.
  2. Then when you need just a few slices for a recipe you will be able to use what you need and chop it fine very easily for what you need it for.
  3. I have been doing this for years, then a friend noticed me doing this and asked if I would share it on Mennonite Girls Can Cook, because she had never thought of doing that and it was a good tip.

  6. This is a great idea! I can't wait to see your photos.... soon, I hope?

We've been freezing bacon on a cookie sheet (using wax paper under the first layer and then layering wax paper between layers of bacon). When frozen, I peel the frozen bacon off the wax paper, cut in half and put into freezer bags.

I think I'll try making some your way. I'm sure it'll save on freezer space.

  9. Great idea! I tried it and really like it! I often cut the bacon roll into quarters before frying. Then the bacon bits are ready for a salad!

  11. I cut a pound of bacon in half with a sharp knife. I pre-cut 6-7 pieces of wrap. I use three slices (6 pieces) and put 3 on a med. size piece of plastic wrap, fold it over to cover=== and then place the other 3 pieces on top and wrap to a nice small packs. It makes a pkg. smaller than a bar of soap. I place packs in a large freezer bag and lay flat to freeze. Take out a single pack - you can pry apart each group of 3 with a kife if you only want a small qty. of bacon. This works great. Or,you can use a plastic container to store packs.
