Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

I decided to post this recipe even though everyone might already have it. It seems to be a favorite for small and big kids. I got this recipe in the years when I was a parent helper at school, from my son’s Grade 2 teacher. Thank you, Mrs. Quast!

Ingredients:
  • ½ cup butter or margarine, room temp
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  1. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, bananas and vanilla, beating each in well.
  2. Add combined dry ingredients and choc chips, stir until just moist.
  3. Fill prepared muffin tins.
  4. Bake at 350 F, for 25 minutes. Yield: 6 jumbo, 12 regular/large or 18 small/medium.

  1. Yummy! I read this as I enjoy another piece of Autumn Apple Cake - will definitely make that one again. I've been looking for a great banana choc. chip muffin recipe as all the ones I've tried lately have flopped.

  7. Thanks for sharing your recipe! I am making new recipes daily and I made this one this morning. I put the pictures and such on my blog after. I think I shouldnt have blended the banana! It lost some of the flavor. Next time Ill just smush it.

  9. This was my first try at banana chocolate chip muffins and I think I was lucky enough to find a winning recipe the first time! They're totally delicious and so easy. My batch was literally gone in less than 24hrs, probably less than 12hrs even. I have a fresh batch in the oven now and I am sure there'll be more to come. Fantastic recipe!

  10. I just left a comment on another banana muffin recipe on you blog. I tried that recipe twice, and this recipe tonight with the same results. My tops are completely flat. I know that I may not fill the muffin tins as much as you perhaps do because I want a smaller muffin. But that should not result in a flat top. Could you offer any ideas what I could possibly be doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

    1. You may want to check that your baking powder is fresh. If that is not the problem and you are getting more than 15 muffins, I think you may want to try using a smaller size muffin tin. I'm sorry, it's hard to know exactly what could be wrong without seeing. Wishing you success next time around.
