Don't Worry

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV

Worry is like a rocking chair ~ it creates momentum and gets you nowhere!

We know that...but what can we do about it?  What is the prescription for a worry-free life?

1. We must realize that life is about so much more than food, drink and clothing.  Those things should not be fueling our passions.

2. We need to 'seek God first'...get our priorities in order.  Our part is to 'seek' God'...His part is to provide our quest.

3.  We need to let go and let God provide for our needs.

I've been thinking about these things since I heard a pastor share a message on this topic awhile back.  Why is it that 3 A.M. seems a perfect time to worry?  I've found it is also the perfect time to pray!  When I awake in the middle of the night...the problems loom bigger than life.  But I have learned that worrying does not produce results.  Prayer does!

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness...
and all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow...
for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:33-34 NIV

  1. Last night I was thinking that I need to stop worrying so much and put things in God's hands more often. Then, I open your devotion this morning and it's as if our Heavenly Father is confirming my thought. I'm sure you often hear how God has spoken through your devotions/reflections. Thank you - all of you - for this blog.

  2. I find The Serenity Prayer...which was popularized by the AA movement...to be a good prayer for worry.

    "God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."

It divides our worries into 2 categories: those things that I can't do anything about...and those that I can do something about. Either way, I have a choice of action...let go of the former, make a plan for the latter.

  7. Worry is one of my biggest time wasters! I spend far too much time on it, imagine how much more productive my thoughts and time could be if I truly did cast all my worries on the One who wants us to do so.

This verse is one of my favorites and has a special meaning for me. It was at the heart of one of those "aha" moments with God. :-)
