 Are You Charged Up?

Every night I faithfully plug in my iPhone and my IPad making sure they are all charged and ready for the next day's work.  It's a habit and part of my routine. You all know what happens if we forget.  A few weeks ago, I unexpectedly made an overnight trip and had no charging devices with me.  I felt at a complete loss. Yes, I could purchase a map, and yes, I could use a pay phone, but it was so inconvenient. My electronic devices were absolutely useless.  One day as I was looking at my charged devices it occurred to me that if we do not plug into God's power daily, we too, become stale, dead and useless in our relationship with God.  We need to be continuously charged by his words and his daily strength to remain effective.
And so it is, as a new year begins...I love taking the time over the winter months to read and recharge myself before the spring work begins.  Just recently I noticed a new idea...about having a basket with all your favorite devotional books and Bibles. Whether they are in a basket or on your coffee table, it doesn't matter, what matters is that we take time to read and connect with God.  God wants us to come to him.  Are we actually thirsting for God or has life made us so busy that we no longer find ourselves needing this solitude?

Psalm 42:1 "As the deer pants for water, so I long for you, O God.  I thirst for God, the living God. Where can I find him to come and stand before him?

There are times where we may have felt that God is silent, and he does not hear us calling. The psalmist recognizes that we may be experiencing discouragement and depression at times, but further on in this Psalm he prompts us to feel and gaze at God's beautiful creation that proclaims his love.
Instead of doing things only within our own strength and ability, the Spirit empowers us. This power is much greater than our own.  It moves us, inspires us, motivates us, and encourages us. Let's be charged up at all times and be filled with God's spirit.

These are some of my favorites!

  1. Great analogy...and a reminder each time I plug in my devices at night!

I'm liking your basket of favorites! One Thousand Gifts is one that I will read and re-read often. It had such an impact on me in 2013...and is the reason I chose "JOY" as my One Word for 2014. And Every Day with Jesus (EDWJ) has been my devotional of choice for many years now.. I appreciate how EDWJ takes two months at a time on a topic in their little devotional booklet.

  2. You have inspired me to get recharging!!! I like your choice of books and also the fact that they are there in a basket, calling out to be read.

  3. That's a great analogy, about needing to be "plugged in" to God's power daily just like we charge up our phones. I think often about manna -- how God provided enough for one day, and one day only. So even if I had a great time conversing with God yesterday, it's not enough to keep me fueled for today. I need a fresh supply of Him, every single day.

  5. So true! And here is a helpful analogy and an equally helpful iPhone case just for you…just as the Psalmist said, "Thy Word have i hid in my heart"…the Go Prong iPhone case has a hidden built in prong for you to plug your iPhone directly into the outlet.
