We have been enjoying fresh lettuce out of our garden this summer.
I simply cut it and fill the clean sink with cold water,
add the lettuce leaves and then transfer it to the other clean sink filled with cold water. Once it is clean, I put it in a salad spinner and store what we can't use for one meal in a zippered bag.
- fresh leaf lettuce
- 1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds
- 8 very thin slices of red onion, quartered
- 1 cup fresh berries
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
- Arrange fresh garden lettuce on each salad plate.
- Divide the almonds, onions, and berries evenly between the plates.
- Combine the sour cream, vinegar, and sugar. Put in a squeeze bottle and drizzle over the salad. This will ensure that every bite has a bit of dressing and will allow the salad to remain pretty to the last bite.

Looks and sounds delicious Lovella. I bet fresh lettuce right from the garden is wonderful...
ReplyDeleteyummy...my kind of a salad..
ReplyDeleteOh I can just taste this! I'll have to find some strawberries and make this for supper.
ReplyDeleteThat looks simply delicious! I love the squeeze bottle idea.
ReplyDeleteNow I just need a garden to run out to. You have the perfect dishes for it too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the dressing recipe, I made a modified version of the dressing for lunch (modified due to allergies!) and plan to keep it in the refrig. as a basic dressing. I used it for lunch with lettuce wedges and crumbled blue cheese and recieved rave revues! ekh
ReplyDeleteGreetings ladies. Someone told me about your blog today, so ill look forward to giving your blog a look. I'm in Lebanon county's Amish community the next county up from Lancaster, Pa. I also have a blog called Amish Stories and i do have some old order Mennonite ladies posting on that blog. They don't have computers so its through a second party. Richard from Amish Stories.
ReplyDeleteIn fact I just posted a story this past Friday about a woman who joined the old order Mennonite church as a young woman. It’s the first time shes told her story on the internet, so I'm extremely lucky to received that for Amish Stories. She lives in New York state near the finger lake region, her community includes some Amish as well. Her story and the reason for joining the church from the outside was done mostly out of love. So I invite everyone from this blog to read her touching story. Thanks folks. Richard from Amish Stories.
