The burgers were ready for the grill when I realized I had no barbecue sauce.
I gathered some ingredients together from my pantry and fridge,
added a bit of this and that....
and handed it over to my husband who was doing the barbecuing.
The liquid smoke and molasses added the flavour I was looking for.
Then I made it again just to make sure I had the measurements right
to share with you.....cause that's how we do it here at MGCC.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp bottled lemon juice
- 1 1/2 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp prepared mustard
- 1 tbsp liquid smoke
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/3 cup chili sauce
Combine all ingredients together in a glass jar and stir well. Keeps well in the fridge for up to a month.
This sounds great - I need to try it. I even have all the ingredients! It would make a good Father's Day gift too.
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect and probably cheaper, too. Great go-to recipe. Thanks ~Elaine
ReplyDeletekathy, this sounds like a really good recipe, i need to buy some liquid smoke.
ReplyDeleteEver since you added the lovely "apron" photo to the top of the blog, I've been unable to print off the recipes. I get the first page with the food photo, but no ingredient page - used to get the entire recipe on one page which was great for adding to my recipe file. Now, it could be me or my printer at fault!! Anyone else had problems since the change of format?
ReplyDeleteRecipe printer ...I just tested it on my printer and it tests fine. Try clicking on the no image option and see if that makes a difference. I printed mine with the photo and it printed the whole recipe.
ReplyDeleteSounds good. Did you use Hickory or Mesquite flavored liquid smoke?
ReplyDeleteJust received your cookbook in the mail yesterday! A darling friend sent it as a surprise. I was reading it, and promptly forgot about the bacon I was frying. I burnt it royally, but the cookbook was so distracting!
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see this post, since I've been thinking about making BBQ sauce for a while now. This looks great, but one question, what do you mean by "chili sauce", (the spicey stuff or the sweet stuff)?
ReplyDeleteWPGirl.....I used Hickory flavored liquid smoke.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably about time I made my own bbq sauce since we bought the smoker. Thanks for the recipe Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to give this a try! I have been afraid to try liquid smoke in the past, but maybe I should get over my fear!
ReplyDeleteE@actfastchef,
ReplyDeleteI use liquid smoke (hickory flavor) in my crockpot beans. Yum.
