This hash brown dish takes a few minutes to mix and is a good addition to a brunch or main meal. Last Sunday morning I added some peeled and cut farmer sausage in a separate dish with a little water. I covered both dishes, pre-set the oven and we came home to a ready meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 bag (2 lb) frozen hash browns
- 2 cans cream of mushroom
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tsp. fine onion flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt,
- pepper
- 2 cups grated cheese
- sprinkle Parmesan cheese
- paprika
Method:
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl, then spread into 9x13 or 2 quart Pyrex dish. For four people I do half the recipe in a 1 quart casserole dish.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and paprika.
- Bake 1 hour at 375° F.
Variation: Add cubed cooked ham or bacon bits.
looks good, and I need the dishcloth!!
ReplyDeleteWell now, isn't that the neatest idea! What a great one dish meal Anneliese! Chocoblock full of flavour too!
ReplyDeletethis is a favorite, especially for potlucks. a must try if you haven't already! thanks for sharing this one. looks great as usual.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good, as do all the food photos you show. It's fun to just come and look at the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe food looks yummy and I wish I knew how to crochet. I make knitted dishcloths. They don't require total attention while making. Now my cereal is not holding up and I'd like to have some of your recipe.
ReplyDeleteLooking very closely to the dishcloth to see if I can copy it. I love to crochet and have made these but not that pattern. Right now I am crocheting a baby blanket for a shower.
ReplyDeleteLove your recipes!
I've enjoyed the blog. I made the Raisin-Applesauce Bread the other day. My husband has gobbled it down singlehandedly. Great recipes, and great pictures. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteIhave the same dish, but we sinply call it Hash brown casserole.... kepp the great recipes coming!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like something all my family would eat. I will be trying it for them.

I make mine in a big roaster with a few links of farmer sausage on top....sooooo yummy!! Now I want that dish cloth!
ReplyDeleteI make this often...it is always a favorite! Kathy (MGCC)
ReplyDeleteThe only bad thing about this dish is that I can't stop eating it. Potatoes and cheese...*drool*
ReplyDeleteOkay - this is comfort food all the way for me. Anything creamy made with potatoes! I have several versions of this dish and love every one of them.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good and quick. I do a potato dish with raw potatoes with layers of sour cream, bacon, green chiles, onion, garlic, and cheese. I might try this recipe but add the green chiles. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis one keeps me coming back.
ReplyDeleteYummy! Anything with hash browns and bacon.
I find this casserole works well with just 1 can of soup and a bit of broth or water to rinse out the can and then the sour cream(if anyone is trying to cut calories :). the canned chilis are a nice addition too. nice potluck dish.
ReplyDeletedid I miss the posting of the December giveaway? I can't seem to find the post.
This dish looks like something I would take to pot luck at church. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the new recipes I've been adding to my master list. Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicious sounding dish. It has all my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLove this recipe, it my go-to dish when I need something for a comforting side dish. I substitute 1 can of cheddar cheese soup for the cream of mushroom, sometimes I add equal parts of aged cheddar and gruyeré cheese along with smoked bacon lardons (pre-cooked), Epicure Toasted Onion and then make a topping with melted butter with Cornflake crumbs or crushed Special K and Parmesan cheese....not for the calorie conscious!!
ReplyDeleteYUMMY, YUMMY, YUM-O!!!! Taters and cheese and sour cream. I'm on it. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteOh this is such comfort food for a cold winter day. ..delicious.
ReplyDeleteAngAK . .we took a december break for the giveaway.
I tried it the other night and loved it. It will be made again.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this dish, I knew I had to try and make it since it looks similar to a dish my mother-in-law makes. I have had made it and I have to say it wonderful as my MIL's Hungarian version. Thank you for sharing. This is writing in my kitchen cookbook.
ReplyDeleteIt's in the oven now. Can't wait to try it. I was wondering though, what kind of grated cheese did you use?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Any kind of grated cheddar is good or whatever you have on hand.
ReplyDeleteLove simple recipes. Will definitely try this one :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe.
I really enjoy your site and the memories of my childhood that your site gives me. Do you know of a CRUMB CAKE recipe by any chance?

Thanks for a great recipe!
Yum! I love hashbrown casserole! I make something very similar except I use cream of chicken soup (I don't like mushrooms).
ReplyDeleteI like to change it up with whatever I have around but the most common extras I use are frozen veggies (peas or corn) and farmers sausage. I cook it all in one pot and have a yummy one dish supper.
I also top it with some panko crumbs or my Cajun shake n' bake and a little bit of cheddar cheese. Oh man, why didn't I take this out of the freezer for supper tonight when I was home at lunch time!?
Thanks for all the wonderful recipes!
YAHOO...just found this...PERFECT..
ReplyDeleteTHANKS, bj
