So excited that your book is here! I would love a copy! This blog has been wonderful for this newlywed couple! A friend sent me the link as part of a wedding gift, and it has filled our table (and tummies!) many a time this past year! The best part was attempting a cabbage roll recipe and actually succeeding! I then told my husband that I had conquered the world. :D Thank you for inspiring us with yummy looking food and step-by-step, fail-proof directions!

  23. How exciting... a new publication you can touch.

My neighbor's mother loved the life cherished by the Mennonites and Amish. As much as Marie baked, she never owned one of their cookbooks. We lost Marie in August 2010. I would love to donate a cookbook to her library in her memory.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love the accessible ingredients and delicious results. I also enjoy hearing about the backgrounds of the recipes. Having married into a Mennonite family, I've appreciated the rich bits of history that you all have shared. Thanks! I'm planning on giving your book to 2 dear friends of mine!

  29. Congratulations to all of you! I think I especially like the fact that for the most part. . . .the ingredients needed for your recipes are already in the pantry. . .or very easy to find. You are inspiring me to bake with yeast. . .although I haven't tried yet. . .2011 is my year to do so.
    Enjoy these days. . . .

  38. A very long time ago a lovely - looking like handwritten - book found it's way to my bookshelves : From Amish and Mennonite Kitchens (Good and Pellman, 1984, still cherished. Now I see there is a new inviting book, congratulations. I like the blog, especially as it has glutenfree recipes from time to time. And for the words on Sunday.

I also always look forward to reading your "Bread for the Journey" entries. I plan to buy one for my sister and one for myself. I also think it may be a traditional gift for young people moving out on their own. Thank you for everything! Carmen

  42. What I love about your blog? I'm mennonite so it seems pretty obvious but I think the best thing is recommending your blog to my non-mennonite friends and they all like it too:). I've loved everything I've tried on here and think the cookbook will be fantastic!

  46. I love this website cause my Husband is Mennonite and I love learning all the recipes he grew up on, so that we can enjoy them now and I can pass it down to my children, plus all the other amazing recipes!

If I were to win this book I would keep it until my daughter Lilyan gets married and then I will pass it down to her..

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love the simple and yet elegant dishes you provide!

I think the book would be a great Mother's Day gift for my sisters!

  48. Congratulations on a job well done, ladies! I have recommended this blog to multiple people who can't eat flour, because the recipes that are anti-flour-friendly are made with T.L.C. Thank you for taking time to adjust recipes as necessary to include allergies!

  49. Everyday I go to your blog to see what new recipe you have made from scratch or your Bread for the Journey that you have posted (they are so uplifting and so appopriate since it is the Lord day of rest). 54. What do I love about your blog? What's NOT to love about your blog?!

Seriously, there are a number of things:

    1) Recipes use ingredients found in an average pantry. I don't need a dictionary to find out what an ingredient might be...or search the web or a specialty store trying to find it.

    2) Recipes are written in a simple, clear, and easy way to follow...important for those just learning the art, and for those of us who aren't so "new" to it.

    3) You always include photo's of the finished product so we know how it "should" look - as well as photo's of "how to" in come cases.

    4) Your recipes are sensible, and some of them are very hard to find...especially those that will feed large numbers of folk.

    5) You never fail to recognize the person from whom the recipe came, if it isn't one of your own.

    6) The part of your blog that touches me most, and in many ways has fed me the best is "Bread for the Journey". It has lifted me, gently scolded me, and reminded me of what is truly important in life.

    7) Last but definitely not least: It was your site that led me to a cookbook I can't do without now.."The Mennonite Treasury of Recipes"...and while there I also found "The Mennonite Heritage Village Cookbook". That last one has incredible information in it! They are both in my book cupboard, to be passed to my grandchildren. For those books alone, I owe you a huge thanks!!

Ladies, whether or not I were to be lucky enough to win your book...I think I'm a winner already - I found your blog didn't I? God Bless you as you have blessed others!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. So excited to get my book! I would love to win one to give away to my mom.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I love that I can find old Menno favourites on your blog!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love your blog and am looking forward to having a copy of your book. I hope to give my mother-in-law one as well, as I know she will love it!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Congratulations, that is super exciting. I love coming to your website to not only find recipes from my childhood, but to enjoy the fantastic photos. I sometimes think it's the modern version of 'The Mennonite Treasury'--with complete recipe instructions instead of 'assuming' that everyone knows how to complete the recipe with only the ingredients given :) hahaha This seems to be a running joke in our family when we go to find a recipe in the Mennonite Treasury but only ingredients are given.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I love the wide variety of recipes shared, the beautiful photos, the collaborative aspect of your blog, and your bread for the journey inspirational posts. I also enjoy having a new recipe posted every day--something fun to look forward to each morning. It would be so exciting to win a copy of your book!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love that your blog doesn't have soooo many photos detailing obvious tasks, such as adding flour to a bowl! Thank you for keeping it simple. :)

I can think of a few friends who'd like this book--but I want it for myself! And I'm usually the one who cooks for others.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I heard about your blog from someone at MPN. I love the recipes and the pictures. I am looking forward to having a copy of the book!! I am giving a copy to me! Congrats.. will love keeping up with the blog and seeing what's new!

  73. I would love to have your book. Since discovering your blog,I have tried so many of your recipes with absolute success! Your site is the first place I go to now, when I need a recipe.

    ReplyDelete
  74. my favorite thing is that you're mennonites like me so i'm familiar with the food we make!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love your site and have gotten a whole bunch of others addicted to it as well (even non-Mennonites). I also love the fact that because of you, my kids are loving foods like "danne pancuke" and homemade "keilke". I grew up with these foods but my Mom was the type of cook that didn't use a cookbook so I didn't have much to go by. If I win this cookbook, I'll give it to one of my sisters who is standing incredibly strong during some rough waters. And then I'll buy one for myself so that I can save money by not running my printer ink dry!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I love that I have the traditional Mennonite recipes my Oma makes right at my finger tips!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I've been checking out the new recipes daily for several months now. It's something fun every morning, and I've been able to add some great new dishes to my menu. Congratulations on the cookbook publication. I'm sure I can think of a lot of people who would love to get one!

  79. I love the collection on Mennonite Girls Can Cook and look forward to having the Cook Book
so I can prop it up beside the Kitchen Aid
and start getting food splatters all over it.

i am so excited for my cousin Lovella as
this long awaited book arrives on the shelves.

  80. I love your blog because it's so simple, inspirational, and full of recipes. I've made the hamburger buns with some degree of success and plan to keep on trying.

I have to confess that, if I win, I will be selfish for a little while before giving it away to another friend who also loves cookbooks. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  81. I check your blog everyday! I have tried many of the recipes and enjoyed them. I like the fact that I have most ingredients in my house or are easy to find.

  83. It's so exciting!!! And my fingers are crossed for my very own copy!

My absoulute favourite thing about this blog, is being able to find all the recipes my late grandmother made when I was a child, including some tips and hints that she DIDN'T write into her copy (though I know she used them). :D

    ReplyDelete
  84. I love the variety of recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  85. How exciting...I love your blog and check in every day to see what the recipe might be...many of which take me back to childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I love to check your blog each day when I get to work! I enjoy the variety of recipes that you feature. Congrats on the cookbook!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm neither a girl or Mennonite (I'm a Baptist boy and a keen home cook), but I've been following this blog since its early days and have been inspired by so many of its recipes. I've told many of my Mennonite friends about this site and they've found it so useful that they've told their friends about it. Congratulations on your book! I plan to get a copy for a Mennonite girl I know who just had her first baby. She has already a copy of Food that Really Schmecks, and I see this book as being a contemporary update of that.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh my, I know y'all are just busting with excitement! Yay for your book!

What I love the most of this site is that I get to read recipes for feeding the body and soul. I like simple food the most, cooking like the way our mothers and grandmothers did. Simple, good food.

Keep it coming and I can't wait to learn more about your cookbook! Enjoy the excitement!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'd totally plan to keep the book for myself! I have tried many of your recipes and have never been disappointed! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love and appreciate that you are feeding hungry children, a new recipe nearly every day, the Sunday meditations, and having a good source of recipes for foods I grew up with. Looking forward to getting my copy in the mail soon and at some point giving my daughter one.

    ReplyDelete
  91. So looking forward to browsing through the recipe book. I am going to put a book away for each of my 3 boys to give as a gift when they move out of the house. Nothing wrong with a guy having some good recipes to use for when they are out on their own.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Wonderful! Hope that the books will be at my house before mother's day because both my girls are getting one!
So looking forward to seeing the actual book!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Congrats, Ladies! I love your blog and read it every day. I like the variety of your recipes and the photos that go along with them. Your recipes fill my recipe box - it would be so nice to have the cookbook instead! :) I have shared many of your recipes with my grown daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I love that your recipes use easy to find ingredients and appeal to my whole family. I can't wait to get a copy of your book for myself, and of course, the wonderful woman who taught me to cook, my mom.

  97. I just recently got this site from a friend and let me tell you it sure hits home:)
All the food is so familiar and brings back a lot of memories. I was brought up mennonite and learnt at a very young age how to cook for when I was gonna get married and had to feed my husband and children:)
I love everything from borscht to platz to zwieback.

    ReplyDelete
  104. i love that even though i live far from home, i can recall and recreate the recipes of my childhood through your blog. i have paska dough rising downstairs thanks to this blog!! and if i won, i'd be selfish and keep it for myself :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. How exciting to see them in all their glory! Do you just want to do a happy dance?

The most recent thing I've loved is that you posted a recipe for glorified rice. I grew up eating it and have even mentioned it to my husband a few times. I don't have my mom's recipe and we haven't eaten it in years so seeing a recipe for it was like being a kid again! And I can't wait to make it for my family. Your recipes are not overly complicated and cover such a range...what a great blog and I can't wait to see the cookbook.

I'd sure love to win one :)

  108. I was told about this blog a week or two from a friend and now check it every day! I have only tried a few things so far and love that most are the recipes I grew up with. If I won I would be selfish and keep it for myself! :)

  115. I have just recently found your blog and have enjoyed looking around. Several of the recipes look like what I grew up with in the midwest. I love that you offer wholesome dishes and I love the photography of the food - I'm one of those visual people and I'm looking forward to trying recipes. I also enjoy the Bread for the Journey - that's what feeds my heart and soul. Blessings and congrats on the new cookbook!

  123. Very exciting! I personally enjoy this blog because I grew up with a wonderful Mennonite grandmother who bought me my first cookbook and taught me all about hospitality and good food early on. She passed away while I was in high school and I very much appreciate the insight and food on this blog from my Mennonite heritage that I remember so fondly and can now bring into my life as a married wife. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I appreciate your website and recipes because they are very detailed. Too many of the cookbooks I gained when I married into a Brethren family are filled with recipes that have vague directions - drives me bonkers!

    ReplyDelete
  125. First time commenting, but I come to your blog every single day to see the latest recipe. Thank you for posting traditional Mennonite recipes as well...it is hard to keep the heritage alive if it is not passed on to the younger generation. I hope to get your book!!

I enjoy your blog so much I passed it along to my daughter who calls to tell me the recipes she tries and likes. She just made the apple coffee cake, her son got so excited, he loves muffins and it looked like a giant muffin! He is 1 1/2 years old.

I love that your blog & the recipes feel like home. My (Mennonite) Mom has been gone for 2 years now and almost everytime I see a recipe here I think of her. Either it's something she made for us or it's something she would have enjoyed.

Aside from the happysad memories I love the down-to-earth-ness of the recipes. I have the ingredients at hand and it's always going to be good.

  153. I love saying "Mennonite Girls Can Cook" whenever someone asks me where I got the recipe for the dish I've brought to a party or get-together! Sometimes you get a weird look, but then you get to inform them of this amazing site with new recipes everyday. I would love to win a copy of the book! I'd probably keep it for myself, but then have to buy 2 more for my mother & mother-in-law. :)

  177. I love that your recipes are 'normal' to me. It's homey and easy to find items. Mennonites really do make some of the worlds best food.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I love that another generation of Mennonite grannies..er...women are still preparing their culture's foods and making the next generation of Mennonite and non-Mennonites eager to get cooking too.

I must report that autofill changed "eager" to "larger" four times before I could make it stay as "eager". Makes me wonder about the artificial intelligence at work.

  179. I love all of the pictures, I am always inspired to cook when I see pictures of what my food could (and hopefully will) look like!

I have Quaker in my blood and have always loved loved loved the Amish, Mennonite and Quaker recipes that my GreatGrand Mother, GrandMother and Mother always cooked\baked for the family.
They have all passed away now and when my Mother passed away someone ''took the cookbook'' that the 3-had always used.
I don't know who took it and I never go it back....would love to have one of the new ''Mennonite Girls Can Cook'' cookbooks.

  200. Congratulations, ladies. I ordered your book months ago and am looking forward to seeing it soon. But that's no reason not to enter for a drawing - something I can give as a gift to someone who loves mennonite food. I love having your site as a resource for just that. I made paska the other day, but adapted it so that I could make the dough in my bread machine. Turned out great!
