Chocolate Cherry Mallows

These cookies draw the children like bees to honey.
The big kids don't seem to mind them either!

  • 20- 25 large marshmallows cut in half - do this first, dipping your scissors or kitchen shears in water with each cut to keep the scissors from sticking. Set marshmallows aside.3/4 cup margarine, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherry liquid
  • 1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate melted
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries drained and chopped
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips melted (for the drizzle)
  1. In mixer bowl, beat margarine with brown sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating in between additions.
  3. Add unsweetened chocolate and maraschino cherry liquid and mix.
  4. Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well.
  5. Stir in pecans and cherries.
  6. Drop by spoonfuls on to ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. Immediately place a half marshmallow piece on each cookie while it is still hot then remove cookies to rack.

  1. We used to make a recipe very similar to this but without the cherry. That sounds like it would add a great taste to an already great cookie!

We left the pecans whole and put one on top of each marshmallow before drizzling them with chocolate. That way we left some plain for those who didn't like nuts. :)

Someone please pick me up from the floor... those look so yummy!

Sent those to my niece that loves to bake. Her dad (my brother) loves chocolate and cherries together.

  8. I tried these tonight because I had some leftover Morello cherries in juice to use up and thought they would work instead of the ones originally called for in your recipe. My pajama clad two year old and husband both approved, and that was even before I'd had a chance to put on the chocolate drizzle.

Thanks for a creative cookie recipe. It was fun to make!
