Tuna Melts

For this recipe I usually use canned tuna, but if I happen to have left over grilled salmon, I will use that. You can use the bread or buns you have on hand or add some extra home-made goodness by making your own French Bread. If you have not tried this recipe I need to tell you again how easy it is. I substituted half of the white flour for multigrain.

Ingredients:

  • thick slices of bread
  • 1 (120 gm) can of tuna
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons taco sauce or salsa
  • 2 small pickles, chopped fine
  • grated or sliced cheese

Mix tuna, mayo, taco sauce and pickles. Spread on bread and cover with grated or thinly sliced cheese. Bake at 350ยบ F until cheese has melted.

  2. I think I want one of those for breakfast right now. Looks yummy. I like the baking idea rather than frying them in pan...

  3. I love tuna melts, but truthfully, I'm not a huge fan of mayo in my tuna salad... for a delicous variation, try substituting the mayo with olive oil and balsamic vinegar... I've converted my husband who was a die hard mayo tuna salad fan!

  7. Anneliese, I love your bread recipe...I would love to try it. I bake bread and somehow this looks absolutely wonderful. What is multigrain flour...and where can you get it? I now about whole wheat, 7,8,10 grain hot cereal...but, multigrain? I can see that it isn't ground up fine...you still see millet, grains, etc. in the bread picture. Help!

  9. Well, what can't you mix in tuna these days. I'd have never thought to mix in taco sauce or salsa, but it all sounds yummy. I have everything but the thick bread, but I can whomp up some of that. I have to try this.

  13. To Ellie - I'm sorry I threw out the bag when I dumped the flour into my container, so I can't check and see what grains are in there. I'll check it out next time. I have a feeling you may only be able to get it in Canada, but you can use any kind of whole wheat mix, bread mix, whole wheat flour mixed with oatmeal, flax etc.

  15. I didn't have any cheese or thick bread, but I made up a can of tuna using the salsa and mayo. It was really good on toasted wheat bread.
