Surprise Spread

This is an appetizer which my friend, Debbie, has brought to functions we've had as friends. I enjoy making it because it is so quick, easy and who does not like to dip crackers or chips while waiting for dinner!

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 200 grams fresh or frozen cooked shrimp, crumbled
  • 1 cup seafood cocktail sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella or Edam cheese
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tomato, diced

Method:
  1. Blend cream cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise.
  2. Spread into a serving plate with a bit of a dip in it.
  3. Layer the rest of the ingredients in order given.
  4. Serve with crackers or tortilla chips.

  3. This has long been a favourite of my son's who has loved shrimp since he was a little guy.
If you keep a package of shrimp or imitation crab in the freezer, it takes only minutes to serve up this great appy.

  4. So ladies - advice please!! Any tips on how to keep rollkuchen fresh and crisp when made a little bit ahead to take to a barbecue? I always find it's a little 'soft' after just a few hours.

  6. It's always great having a handful of layered dips in the old repertoire.

Yesterday I was in need of such a recipe for dinner, and just then saw your blog post with the perfect thing! So I made it as an starter for our guests last night, and served it with thin slices of baguette. It was wonderful!!

The best part is that there are a few leftovers to be nibbled upon today.

Thanks for the recipe and the perfect timing!

    1. Thank you! I'm not a big fan of shrimp myself, so I get why you would change it up! It is a surprise dip in that those flavors just blend so well.
