Bread for the Journey

Love is patient and kind.
Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
Love does not demand its own way.
Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.
It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

The kind of love that the Bible talks about is very different than what we often demonstrate when we say we love our family and friends.

I read the verses again but I substituted my name for the word Love . . .

and as I read it aloud I wondered ....

do these verses fit with how I treat my friends and family?

I found myself coming up short in areas and . . .

I saw that I have lots of room to practice showing love.

Since today is Valentines Day. .

it is a good day to start fresh.

Happy Valentines Day to all of you our dear friends!

All for now. .

with love,

  1. Well said. And your photos enhance your thoughts!
I used to come for the recipes, but now I always come on Sunday as well.
I'm glad your style isn't preachy- a lot of spiritual blog entries could double as sermons.

  2. Beautiful post! Happy Valentine's Day to you also.

    until next time... nel

  3. Thanks.Reading that portion and putting my name in there gives it a whole new meaning.I have much to strive for.Happy Valentine's Day.

  4. Lovely thoughts and so true. How often we would change if we put our names in place of "others" in the Bible. This is one time that it is all about me. How do I live my life?

    Great post!

  5. Thank you for this practical reminder (putting my name in there)... I'm so glad God is patient with me.

  6. Oh....I read it with my name too and I too have much to work on. Great thoughts for today and challenge for each day ahead. Kathy

  7. Taking a deep breath to start anew, afresh ~
    to love better ♥

  8. Lovely post for Valentine's Day. Thank you!

  9. Among my favorite of all the scriptures. So much power in those words. So much peace if we would choose to live them.
