I've been enjoying this relish for 35 years. I have never tried making it without thickener but it won't affect it the flavour if you don't add it. Like you say, you could just use the juice in something else. I would think you would have to cook it down a bit more though if you want to use it on a hamburger or hotdog.Lovella ♥https://www.blogger.com/profile/13870567090244361779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454531829676162260.post-15091141387049193682013-09-01T22:15:06.421-07:002013-09-01T22:15:06.421-07:00Oh, just commented a minute ago...Just started fol...Oh, just commented a minute ago...Just started following your blog. No need of flour. Same with salsa, no need of cornstarch. Is that to make it seem more like store bought? My children won't eat store bought tinned food for that reason. They don't like the mouth feel of the starches added to thicken. Any extra delicious juice if there is any is added to tuna salad (from the relish) etc.ELizabethnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454531829676162260.post-37250710048754407152010-11-04T21:46:29.785-07:002010-11-04T21:46:29.785-07:00No, in this recipe you would not need to add xant...No, in this recipe you would not need to add xanthan gum to the flour.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02029451742280017744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454531829676162260.post-87375387639254364282010-11-04T12:57:44.423-07:002010-11-04T12:57:44.423-07:00Do you need to add xanthan gum with the gluten fre...Do you need to add xanthan gum with the gluten free flour?Anitanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454531829676162260.post-36786179628040264312009-06-11T22:53:11.261-07:002009-06-11T22:53:11.261-07:00ithinkican.... yes! you could substitute gluten-f...ithinkican.... yes! you could substitute gluten-free flour...you could use an all purpose gf mix... or I would use 1/4 cup sweet rice/1/4 cup brown rice. julieJuliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02029451742280017744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454531829676162260.post-28382071035530878222009-06-11T05:33:27.974-07:002009-06-11T05:33:27.974-07:00Great photos and reading.
